For Orlando Antigua, homecomings have a special meaning. He returned home to Kentucky to meet up with John Calipari. He is now going back to Illinois, the school he left behind.
Illinois basketball revealed that Antigua will be going back to Champaign to see Brad Underwood again. From 2017 to 21, Antigua was a member of Underwood’s coaching staff in Illinois. Actually, Underwood hired Antigua as the Fighting Illini’s first head coach.
“We are beyond thrilled to welcome Orlando back to our program,” Underwood said. “The addition of him to our staff is the latest step in elevating Illinois Basketball as we continue to compete for championships. Orlando is held in the highest regard in our profession and someone I have tremendous trust in. Coaching, recruiting, player development, player relationships; he is the complete package.
He is everything—coaching, recruiting, player development, and player relationships. Orlando, who has done this throughout his career, cut down nets and helped us win a lot of games the last time. In the upcoming years, we hope to continue doing that together in Champaign.
