Urgent:Frankie Beverly Rushed to the hospital in a critical condition
Say it isn’t. Maze vocalist Frankie Beverly is announcing his final tour after 54 years, nine gold albums, and a string of singles, including “Before I Let Go,” which Beyoncé affectionately covered on her live album Homecoming. Beginning on March 22 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, the I Want to Thank You Farewell Tour will conclude on May 12 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
Details of the afterparty that will take place after the Atlanta event are still being organized. After the tour concludes, Beverly will go to Philadelphia, where he and his Maze band, formerly known as Raw Soul, started creating their musical legacy in 1970, for a street renaming ceremony. “I want to communicate with my lifelong fans and associates that I am going out on the road one final time, then retire,” Beverly says in an exclusive statement to Billboard. As I hand off the lead vocalist hat to Tony Lindsay, I really appreciate your support over the past 50 years. Maze Honoring Frankie Beverly will be the band’s next performance. The journey across the decades has been amazing. Let my legacy’s songs live on.
Beverly’s farewell tour trip is being produced by the Black Promoters Collective (BPC). “Since the ‘70s, the iconic Frankie Beverly has given us with timeless hits such as ‘Happy Feelings,’ ‘Golden Time of Day,’ ‘Joy and Pain’ and the quintessential party starter ‘Before I Let Go,’” BPC CEO Gary Guidry tells Billboard. “His heartfelt tunes have enhanced our experiences and added to the soundtrack of our life.” It is a privilege to accompany him on his final trip.
