For fifteen years, actor Joe Mantegna played David Rossi on Criminal Minds. His character claims that the girl who escaped was a childhood sweetheart and has been married several times. Joe and his wife, Arlene, have been together for more than 55 years in real life. Additionally, the couple has a lovely love story in which they have supported one another’s aspirations and assisted one another through difficult times.
According to People, Joe and Arlene, who are from the Chicago region, started dating in 1969 after meeting in high school. They conducted casual, private vows at the top of the Eiffel Tower before getting married in 1975.
Together with actor Dennis Franz, who went on to become successful on shows like NYPD Blue and Hill Street Blues, they packed a U-Haul and relocated to Los Angeles in 1978. But Joe started more slowly. After starring in a Broadway production, he finally gained recognition in 1984.
Joe returned to the Chicago theatre scene with Arlene at this side. The two cooked pasta dinners for the cast and hosted parties for their theatre friends. “I don’t know how to cook for two,” Arlene told the Chicago Tribune in 1986. “It’s always for eight or ten.” Arlene supported Joe as he strove to be an actor.
