“Goodbye, Brandon Lee! The Heartbreaking News All Fans Need to Know!”
Over the years, director Alex Proyas has insisted that, in remembrance of Brandon Lee, his star who passed away in an accident on set, his 1994 film The Crow should not be remade. A reboot of The Crow is in fact ready for release after years of production, and Proyas is raising his concerns once more.
“I truly do not enjoy reading disparaging remarks about the work of other filmmakers. And like everyone on any movie, I am sure the crew and actors genuinely meant well. Proyas posted a link to an article mentioning that the trailer for The Crow remake garnered a lot of dislikes on YouTube along with the statement, “It hurts me to say any more on this matter, but I think the fan’s response speaks volumes,” on Facebook on Monday. “A film, THE CROW is more than that. It was completed as a memorial to Brandon Lee’s devastating loss and lost brilliance, and he died making it. It is his lasting legacy. That is the way it ought to stay.
“I finished the film for Brandon – struggling through grief, along with the hugely supportive cast & crew who all loved Brandon, to complete it in his absence,” Proyas wrote. “We were imbued with the strength of Brandon’s spirit and his inspiration. Not only Brandon’s wonderful work as an actor and a film-maker, but as a man, whose humanity had touched us.” Proyas had previously written extensively on the subject back in 2017, when star Jason Momoa was set to star in the reboot.
