In a candid press conference today, Denver Nuggets President Josh Kroenke addressed the recent firings of head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth, calling the decisions “difficult but necessary” as the franchise looks to reset its direction following a disappointing playoff exit.
Kroenke expressed deep respect for both men, acknowledging their roles in delivering the Nuggets’ first-ever NBA Championship in 2023. However, he cited a need for “new leadership and fresh vision” as the team prepares for a rapidly evolving Western Conference landscape.
“This organization owes a great deal to both Coach Malone and Calvin,” Kroenke said. “But after careful evaluation, we felt it was time to make changes that align with our long-term championship goals.”
The Nuggets, led by superstar Nikola Jokić, were eliminated in the second round of the 2025 NBA Playoffs, falling short of expectations after entering the season as title contenders.
Kroenke did not name immediate replacements but stated that a nationwide search for a new coach and GM is already underway.
“This is still a team built to win now,” he emphasized. “Our next hires will reflect that urgency.”
The sudden shake-up marks a pivotal moment in Denver’s franchise timeline—one that could define their trajectory for years to come.
