The 20-year-old American phenom, currently ranked within the WTA Top 5, has opted for a brief hiatus from competition, citing a combination of physical fatigue and the need to recalibrate following a demanding start to the 2025 season. Gauff, who made a deep run at the Australian Open and played through a packed calendar, has been noticeably absent from recent tournaments including Miami and Charleston, and is not slated to compete in Stuttgart this week.
Her absence opens the door for close rivals, including Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula, to climb higher in the rankings. Gauff’s ranking could dip outside the Top 5 if results in upcoming tournaments do not go her way.
