Former Kentucky head coach Rick Pitino, to return to Kentucky as assistant Head Coach
According to someone with inside knowledge, St. John’s is “not a terrific basketball team,” as coach Rick Pitino stated following the club’s 77-64 loss to No. 1 Connecticut earlier this month.
Pitino, who is 71 years old and in his sixth Division I position, is still a sharp talent assessor. In reality, the Red Storm are a very mediocre, if not slightly worse, basketball team. They are by no means spectacular. Pitino’s fury reaches a new peak as each loss goes by and the losses keep piling up.
“We are not a very good shooting team or a very good defensive squad,” he stated. “I take a practical approach to it. Our limitations include being little, being slow laterally, not being very good at shooting the ball, and not playing
After defeating Providence on January 10 and practically every predicted 68-team field, St. John’s was 12-4. Since then, they have only triumphed twice, against Villanova and DePaul. The Red Storm are now 14-12 and have fallen to third place in the Big East, ahead of the Blue Demons and Georgetown.
