HEARTBREAKING:Linebacker Gavin Nix flipped to Oregon, costing Miami a four-star prospect for the second day in a row…
Miami lost linebacker Gavin Nix, a four-star prospect from the 2025 class, to Oregon for the second day in a row. Hylton Stubbs, a four-star safety, flipped to Florida on Monday. Miami is ranked 13th in the 247Sports composite rankings going into Monday’s Early National Signing Period, which includes 21 commits.
Nix, a 2025 graduate of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, is ranked 239th among Florida’s prospects, 26th among linebackers, and 35th overall. Prior to enrolling at IMG Academy, Nix attended Lake Highland Prep in Orlando. Ezekiel Marcellin, a three-star prospect, is the lone linebacker left in the Miami class of 2025.
Miami is also expected to lose three-star cornerback prospect Timothy Merritt in the 2025 class, in addition to Nix and Stubbs. Less than 24 hours before Wednesday’s start of the Early National Signing Period, no flips are anticipated in Miami’s favor.
According to John Garcia of Rivals, Nix flipped from Miami to Oregon following an unofficial visit to Eugene in late November.Com. Patrick, Nix’s father, advised Garcia that it all comes down to moving on to the next level. The lone Miami linebacker taken since 2015 is Shaquille Quarterman, who was chosen by Jacksonville in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
If Alderman and/or Bissainthe decide to leave after the 2024 season ends, Miami may try to use the transfer portal to add LB depth without having much experience at the position. On December 9, the transfer site opens. As of now, no Miami player has said that they plan to transfer after the 2024 campaign.
