Just days after selecting cornerback Jahdae Barron with their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, questions are already swirling around the Denver Broncos’ decision—and not all the noise is positive.
While Barron, a standout at Texas, brings versatility and speed to the secondary, critics argue that the Broncos had more pressing needs—particularly at quarterback and on the offensive line. Many fans expected Denver to target a future franchise quarterback, especially after last season’s inconsistency at the position. When the team instead went defense, the reaction was swift.
“Barron is talented, no doubt,” said one NFL analyst. “But when you’re desperate for offensive stability, passing on quarterback prospects might come back to bite you.”
Adding fuel to the fire, several projected top-tier QBs were still on the board when Denver made their selection. The fanbase erupted on social media, with many questioning whether the front office truly has a long-term vision—or is simply patching holes.
Head coach Sean Payton defended the move, saying, “We took the best player available who fits our scheme. Jahdae is a game-changer and gives us flexibility in coverage.”
Still, skeptics are unconvinced. With a team stuck in rebuilding mode and a fanbase hungry for a return to relevance, the scrutiny on Barron—and the Broncos’ draft strategy overall—is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
If Barron doesn’t make an immediate impact, the front office may have to answer for what some are already calling a missed opportunity.
