Urgent:Kirk Hammett Rushed to the hospital in a critical condition

Kirk Hammett is making some career moves.

The iconic Metallica member, who has been the band’s guitarist since Dave Mustaine quit in 1983, disclosed that he is working on his first solo album in an interview with Rolling Stone that was published on Sunday, March 23.

The 62-year-old Kirk Hammett talked about how he is starting work on the LP while discussing his new book, The Collection: Kirk Hammett, which gives readers a unique look into his vast guitar collection.

He told the magazine, “I am just actively gathering ideas for my [first] solo record.” “I suppose the best way to put it is that it will be a combination of many different genres. One minute I am composing classical progressions, the next I am writing heavier stuff, then again I am writing like a funk thing.

There will be vocals because the tunes I wrote this time around beg for vocals,” he continued. I ask myself, “Well, who will be singing?” I am not sure. I have got too much to accomplish on stage already, so I hope I am not.

“I have an instrumental work called ‘The Mysterion,’ which seems to me to be from 2000 years ago. It is inspired by everything I have been reading, including ancient Greek literature, and I think it is fantastic since I would not have this instrumental if I had not started reading these old texts,” the “Enter Sandman” performer said.

Chris Vinnicombe, Gibson’s Editor-in-Chief, wrote the book The Collection: Kirk Hammett, which was published on Thursday, March 20 through Gibson Publishing. The “Master of Puppets” musician discussed it with PEOPLE on Friday, March 21.
