Urgent:Jeri Ryan Rushed to the hospital in a critical condition
If you happened to watch Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), the last pre-Kelvin Timeline Star Trek film, you might remember Kate Mulgrew’s brief appearance as Admiral Kathryn Janeway. Because it was the first film in the series following the return of the namesake crew to Earth in the Star Trek: Voyager series finale, this was made possible narratively. Unbeknownst to you, Paramount exploited this to try to either compel Marina Sirtis to accept a wage cut or replace her with Jeri Ryan, the staple of Star
According to TrekMovie, a reunion of the TNG cast marked the end of the 2017 Star Trek Las Vegas event. Marina Sirtis was sufficiently enraged by a fan’s question to discuss something she had never discussed in public. One fan questioned why they never heard males share similar stories but always heard Trek actresses discuss challenging contract negotiations. “Like everywhere else, women in Hollywood get paid less than men,” Sirtis retorted. She then went on to tell the tale of the studio’s attempt to replace her. “They actually threatened to fire me and recast Troi during my negotiations for Nemesis—well, not recast exactly, but they said, ‘We are going to fire you and hire Jeri Ryan.'” “Jeri Ryan will not do it for that money, that is for sure,” I added.

Certain aspects of Sirtis’ narrative were verified long before she reported it, as TrekMovie notes. Jeri Ryan claimed in 2011 that she declined a role in Star Trek: Nemesis. Ryan elaborated on the issue in 2014, claiming that Paramount Studios called Trek producer Rick Berman and demanded that Jeri Ryan be cast in Nemesis. “Well, we are going to replace one of the characters with Seven,” Paramount said in response to a question about Ryan’s role in the film. We now know that Deanna Troi was that character.
