Jonathan Bailey could have found his follow-up, and it makes a huge splash, after his critically lauded appearance in the Showtime series Fellow Travelers. He is in early talks to star in the upcoming Jurassic World film from Universal and Amblin Entertainment, according to sources who spoke with Deadline. Talks to star Scarlett Johansson are also underway. With Gareth Edwards directing.
The film was recently slated by the studio to premiere on July 2, 2025, and they made quick work of finding a director, with Edwards meeting with executives for the entire week last week. An offer quickly came after the film made an impression on producers Frank Marshall and Steven Spielberg, who assisted in the 1990s franchise’s debut. After an agreement is finalized, pre-production is anticipated to increase.
Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum from the original trilogy, as well as Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard from Jurassic World, are not anticipated to return for the upcoming film, which will take a different approach. The script was written by David Koepp.
Spielberg through Amblin will serve as the film’s executive producer; Marshall and Patrick Crowley will produce through Kennedy-Marshall. The project will be managed by the studio’s creative executive of production development, Jacqueline Garell, and executive vice president of production development, Sara Scott.
Bailey has a close relationship with Universal because he will be included in the much awaited Wicked adaptation. The company was enthusiastic about his performance after the shoot and is optimistic about the project after revealing it all during its CinemaCon presentation.
