BLOOMINGTON — Malik Reneau, a junior forward for Indiana basketball, was ill and missed Wednesday’s visit from Penn State.
Reneau’s status was unclear in the lead-up to tipoff, and he was viewed as dubious prior to the game. His absence on Indiana’s bench, probably as a precaution, reinforced what his lack of participation in pregame warmups had hinted at. After the game, Mike Woodson informed reporters that Reneau had been ill late in the afternoon and needed to be brought to a nearby emergency room.
Woodson said Reneau participated in pregame shootaround before feeling sick. During his press conference, IU’s coach stated that he had not yet received an update on Reneau’s condition.
Woodson claimed that “he was great in shootaround, and then he came down with something.” Only a few days have passed since Reneau had what may have been his best performance of the season, making all seven of his field goal tries en route to 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
