The Saddest News Ever: RIP, Negative Type O Singer Pe…
“As previously reported, Type O Negative keyboardist Josh Silver confirmed to blabbermouth.net that Peter Steele passed away yesterday (Wednesday, April 14) at the age of 48. No formal cause of death has yet been published, although it is thought that Steele died of heart failure. Unverified rumors claim that Steele had been sick for some days before passing away.
Steele was born in Brooklyn, New York, on January 4, 1962, as Petrus T. Ratajczyk. Standing at six feet seven inches, he was known for his distinctive low-pitched voice, which was a key component of Type O Negative’s sound. Steele performed with the thrash band Carnivore and the metal outfit Fallout before to starting Type O Negative.
This news breaks my heart. Men in their 48s should not pass away from heart failure. I can not even begin to count the number of times I have seen Type O Negative live, and each time was incredible and unforgettable. In particular, who can recall their previous “Annual” Halloween performances at NYC’s Roseland Ballroom? Amazing! Pete Steele was not only incredibly beautiful and talented, but he also treated his admirers with the utmost kindness. He even signed the cover of my Playgirl issue, which I still have framed and hung on my wall, and featured his centerfold spread. What an utter catastrophe that is for the music business. We shall really miss him.
