The director abandoned the James Dean biopic after…
Speaking publicly, Michael Mann discussed dumping a “brilliant screenplay” for the James Dean movie he was supposed to film. The acclaimed filmmaker had intended to make a film about the late actor, who passed away at the age of 24 in a 1955 vehicle accident, prior to his critically acclaimed 1995 picture Heat. Before passing away too soon, Dean starred in three movies: Giant (1956), East of Eden (1955), and Rebel Without a Cause (1955). Although he passed away before the latter’s production was finished, he was awarded an Academy Award after his death.
In a recent interview, Mann told Deadline that the first problem was figuring out “who the hell could play James Dean.” He said, “And I found this guy who could play James Dean, but he was too young.” “Leo was the one.” “We conducted an extremely impressive screen test. I estimate that he was 19 years old at the time. And he was right there with him from one perspective. It’s brilliant, really,” Mann exclaimed.
“He would look one way and we would see a vision of James Dean, and then he would look another way and it would be like, no, that’s just a little child.” Featuring Kate Winslet, DiCaprio’s breakout film roles were in the 1993 film What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, the 1996 production of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, and the 1997 film Titanic.
The actor, who is currently 47 years old, will appear in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming crime drama, Killers of the Flower Moon, which is scheduled for release in May 2023. A “large ambitious movie” based on Mann’s recently published book Heat 2, a follow-up to his 1995 masterpiece, is currently in the works.
At Vogue World: Paris Sunday, Katy Perry made her runway debut in an almost nonexistent outfit. During the fashion event at the Place Vendôme in Paris, the former judge of “American Idol” revealed skin in a black dress with strategically cut outs from the archive of Noir Kei Ninomiya. Perry, 39, was leading a marching band while wearing a geometric dress with a skirt adorned with soft pink and black tulle. She wore her black hair pulled up and teamed it with lace-up boot shoes.
FKA Twigs tells Perry, “Make sure it looks like you’re going somewhere, but not in a pop star way.” Perry comes back, “I’ve only ever been a pop star,” which makes the cameraman giggle.
