Because of the drama surrounding the 2018 US Open final, Osaka and the Frenchman already had experience together. In the main event on Arthur Ashe, she faced Williams, but she rapidly turned into a comedy.
In an attempt to win her first Grand Slam match, Osaka defeated Williams 6-2 in the opening set. However, Williams received a coaching warning in the second set.
Following a thumbs-up from Mouratoglou, umpire Carlos Ramos intervened. The 23-time Grand Slam champion persisted in berating Ramos, which resulted in a game penalty for her.
Even though Osaka won, the incident overshadowed her triumph. In a recent interview, Mouratoglou addressed the controversy, stating, “We had a terrible day because of all the drama surrounding the US Open final.”
