Dallas Mavs player With a 40-point triple-double, Luka Doncic surpasses Wilt Chamberlain and creates NBA history. The Dallas Mavericks player Luka Doncic's case for MVP gets stronger with every game that goes by. The four-time All-NBA First Team player created more NBA history on Saturday night in Portland as the Mavs defeated the Trail Blazers 131-120. Doncic played 37 minutes and finished the game with 40 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists while shooting 15–28 from the floor. With those numbers, Doncic moved up to fourth place on the list of all-time 40-point triple-doubles, surpassing NBA great Wilt Chamberlain. Doncic now has eight career games with a 40-point triple-double, compared to seven for Chamberlain. Russell Westbrook (13), James Harden (16), and Oscar Robertson (22) are players who are on the list before Doncic. Given that Doncic is just beginning his prime and has already risen to fourth on that list before turning 25, one would think he has a good chance of challenging the three players ahead of him. On Saturday, Doncic also created some franchise history by surpassing Dirk Nowitzki in the number of Mavericks with 35 points. Nowitzki played in 1,522 games over 21 seasons, so you can see how crazy that statement is. Doncic is in his sixth season in the league and has participated in 354 games. Doncic has had to step it up because the Mavs have been severely lacking in players lately due to injuries to Josh Green, Dereck Lively II, Kyrie Irving, and a number of other players who have been in and out of the lineups. He is now the sixth player in the last ten seasons and the 22nd player in league history to score at least 30 points in ten straight games (source: EliasSports). Against the Blazers on Saturday night, Doncic scored 30 points in the first half by himself. Doncic's record-breaking performance will now travel to Denver on Monday, where the 16-9 Mavs, currently third in the Western Conference standings, will play the 17-10 Denver Nuggets, led by Nikola Jokic. Dallas, which lost at Denver 125-114 on November 3, will try to level the score.
