Stay or Go: Should Giants bring Tommy DeVito back for the 2025 season?
Tommy DeVito has become somewhat of a cultural phenomenon in just his two seasons with the Giants.DeVito, who was born and reared in New Jersey, completed his college education at Illinois after attending Don Bosco Prep and Syracuse.DeVito, affectionately referred to by the Giants’ supporters as Tommy Cutlets, has occasionally served as a spark for the offense.
DeVito, who joined the organization as an undrafted free agent, has already won over fans. In the last two seasons, he has made 12 appearances, eight of which have been starts, and thrown for 11 touchdowns and four interceptions.
The Giants could, however, offer DeVito a one-year, league-minimum contract now that he is an exclusive rights free agent.DeVito will be unable to negotiate with other teams if they do.In other words, the Giants may acquire
The Giants quarterback room is a major mystery going into the upcoming season. The departure of Daniel Jones earlier this season marked the end of his time with New York, while backup Drew Lock is a free agent who is most likely to sign with another team in the upcoming league season.DeVito is now the lone quarterback who could return.
To identify their next starting quarterback, the Giants may, of course, take a variety of approaches via the draft, free agency, or trades. It could be Justin Fields, Russell Wilson, Cam Ward, or Shedeur Sanders. The next starting quarterback for the Giants, however, will have to become familiar with Brian Daboll’s scheme.DeVito can assist any other quarterbacks entering the room since he has been a part of that system for two years.
Although DeVito will not start at quarterback for the Giants next season, the team could likely do far worse as a backup or third stringer than the former UDFA, who has a 3-5 record as a starter. That might not seem like much, but keep in mind that DeVito has played in one-third of the Giants’ nine victories over the previous two seasons.
