Spurs: Wilt Chamberlain and Victor Wembanyama draw comparisons.
Victor Wembanyama, a rookie for the San Antonio Spurs, has already gathered a sizable fan base.
Just when it seemed like the hype train could not possibly get any bigger, a former NBA player and champion made an incredible prediction.
The most recent installment of FanDuel’s premier NBA program, “Run It Back,” featuring analyst Michelle Beadle, insider Shams Charania, former players Chandler Parsons and Lou Williams, and analyst Metta World Peace, revealed that Wembanyama will eventually surpass Wilt Chamberlain’s record for in-game scoring. World Peace won a championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2010.
World Peace declared, “[Victor Wembanyama] is the closest thing we will ever see to Wilt [Chamberlain].” “This kid is going to improve and put on weight. He will receive 101 [points] at some point during the following seven years.”
This is arguably the most impressive Wembanyama forecast to consider out of all of the ones we have seen. Peace is probably right when he says that Wembanyama is the closest thing we will see that resembles Chamberlain physically. But Chamberlain played in a time when general talent and athleticism were not as high as they are in the modern NBA. That is not to minimize the legend’s accomplishments; rather, it is to moderate inflated hopes for the sensational rookie, 19 years old.
Wembanyama was averaging 18.9 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals, and 3.1 blocks per game before to Tuesday night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies. In just his fifth NBA game, he scored 38 points against the Phoenix Suns on November 2, which stands as his career high scoring effort to date.
