Born in Bethnal Green, London on September 28, 1946, Helen Shapiro is a British pop, jazz, and acting vocalist. At the age of 10, Helen Shapiro started her pop career as a member of the school group Susie and the Hula Hoops, which included a young Marc Bolan on guitar. At the age of just 14, Helen Shapiro scored her first hit in 1961. She went on to become the youngest female UK chart topper with two Number 1 hits on the UK Official Singles Chart, You Do not Know and Walking Back To Happiness. Helen Shapiro traveled as The Beatles’ opening act after her recording manager, Norrie Paramor, rejected a song that the band had written for her. Helen Shapiro went to acting, appearing in the short-lived soap opera Albion Market and in Cabaret and Oliver! theatrical plays. Helen Shapiro withdrew from Hollywood in 2002.
