Shock:No. 1 recruit Jeremiah Smith signs with Ohio State, ends speculation!
High school recruiters nationwide had their early signing day on Wednesday. Future college football players that were highly regarded inked contracts to play for Georgia, Alabama, Texas, and other elite programs. With one significant exception, the majority of the top-15 recruits have signed on by Wednesday night, according to the recruiting databases of 247Sports and On3.
The nation’s top-ranked wide receiver, Jeremiah Smith, has not formally committed to Ohio State. The Buckeyes and their supporters were alarmed by the Chaminade-Madonna Prep wide receiver and top prospect. Smith attended a signing day ceremony in south Florida this afternoon after initially committing to Ohio State in December 2022.
However, following the ceremony, Smith had not yet formally sent the Buckeyes his letter of intent (LOI). There were considerable concerns that Ohio State did not confirm his signing until hours after it was over.
Smith had previously been heavily courted by other teams, including as the Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles, and there was conjecture that they had persuaded him to alter after his initial pledge. This recruiting cycle, it would not be the first time; on Monday, Miami traded four-star running back Jordan Lyle from the Buckeyes to the Hurricanes.
