Sha’Carri Richardson rose to national prominence in the summer of 2021 as the country prepared for the Olympics in Tokyo. She ran a scorching 10.86 in the 100 meters to qualify for the U.S. track squad, but after testing positive for THC metabolites, she was barred from participation for a month.
Many people condemned the suspension, and Richardson’s notoriety increased while she was away from Tokyo. She had trouble at initially when she went back to track, placing last in the Prefontaine Classic 100-meter sprint.
That added to the satisfaction of Richardson’s victory on Friday in the 100-meter U.S. title. Brittany Brown, who finished in second place, lost 0.08 seconds to her 10.82.
“I am here to stay, and I am ready intellectually, physically, and emotionally,” Richardson declared following her triumph in Eugene, Oregon. “I have not returned. I have improved.
The U.S. Olympic trials are set to take place in Orlando early next year, and Richardson, who is 23 years old, is expected to seek for her first Olympic appearance in 2024.
