Ahead of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, a new documentary series about the legendary gymnast Simone Biles and her journey back to the Olympics is scheduled to premiere. “Simone Biles Rising” will provide viewers and fans with an intimate look at some of the Olympian’s video diaries and her struggle to compete again after withdrawing from multiple events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics three years prior.
As stated in the Netflix documentary series’ trailer, “I knew it would be a lengthy path, but to me, it was not done,” Biles adds.
The two-part series will follow Biles as she copes with her past traumas, learns how to manage her mental health, and embraces her journey preparing for a potential third Olympics. Biles withdrew from competition at the 2020 Tokyo Games after experiencing “the twisties,” a term used to describe when the body and mind are out of sync.
