Sad News: Dire Straits Was Arrested Today Regarding The Alleged…
The British rock group shared the news with a picture of the musician and the words “Jack Sonni Rest In Peace” on X, the former Twitter.
The official blog for Dire Straits states that he was 68 years old.
Having joined the band in 1977, Sonni was jokingly referred to as the “other guitar player in Dire Straits,” along with Pick Withers, John Illsley, and Mark and David Knopfler.
While working in a Manhattan music store, he got to know the Knopfler brothers, and he later visited their house in London.
He received an invitation to join the group in 1984, and he was there when Brothers in Arms, the band’s 1985 record, won praise from all around the world.
The album peaked at number one in the UK Albums Chart for 14 non-consecutive weeks and reached number nine in the US Billboard 200.
Among the most well-known songs of the group were Walk Of Life, Money For Nothing, and Brothers In Arms.
“A writer, musician, wandering raconteur, father, and grandfather who has taken to heart the reality of the hard-learned lesson that life is brief,” was how the musician’s website put him.
It continued, saying, “He has adopted the idea that the best way to live is to live fully and present-mindedly in order to make cherished memories with loved ones.
And he is someone who understands how crucial it is to give them your all while you can because you never know what the future holds.
Sonni kept on performing music after splitting from the Dire Straits, joining The Leisure Class, a group he founded in the late 1970s.
In the Dire Straits Legacy project, he also made frequent appearances alongside other former members of Dire Straits.
