Sad day for Castle fans: Stana Katic is departing the show….
The gorgeous Stana Katic, who starred as Captain Kate Beckett on ABC’s smash series Castle for eight seasons, has decided not to come back for a ninth.
Since the show is 2009 premiere, the 37-year-old actor has portrayed Beckett in the criminal drama. According to Deadline, ABC chose not to extend her contract due to “budgetary issues.”
If the show gets renewed for a shortened 13-episode run, her co-star Nathan Fillion, 45, who plays Beckett’s husband Rick Castle, is anticipated to return for season nine.
“Rather than distract from what was a fantastic experience, I would simply like to say that I am extremely thankful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a greatly loved show,” Katic said, declining to elaborate on the reasons behind her leaving. I would like to thank the fans.
“Kate Beckett has been a cherished character on our smash series Castle for the past eight years,” an ABC statement read. We hope to work with Stana Katic in the future and are appreciative of her talent and commitment to the series. We are appreciative that Tamala Jones was a member of Castle because she has also played a crucial role in the series.
