SAD Announcement:Darius Slay’s wife shares heartbreaking message after Eagles cut him to save money for free agency
His wife seems to be struggling after the Philadelphia Eagles cut one of their important veterans during their journey to Super Bowl LIX this past season. The team cut six-time Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay as a cap casualty. According to reports, the decision allowed the Eagles to save $4.3 million against their cap.
Over the last five seasons, Slay has been in charge of an Eagles secondary that, in 2024, anchored the NFL’s top pass defense.
However, the addition of rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean—both of whom had fantastic first NFL seasons—was the primary cause of that. As a result of their rapid assimilation into the NFL, Slay’s release makes sense in terms of freeing up funds for potential future free agency moves.
Also, she shared a photo of herself and her husband celebrating Super Bowl LIX’s win on her Instagram Story with the caption, “Philly,” along with heart-hands, broken heart, and teary-eyed emojis. The game’s business can be cruel, as has been said numerous times. This is another instance of a difficult decision that must be taken.
After spending his first seven seasons with the Detroit Lions, where he won three of his six Pro Bowls, Darius Slay will now be looking for his third NFL team.
According to CBS Sports, Slay wants to play one more season, which typically means joining a contender to compete for another Super Bowl ring. In 14 games last season, he had 13 passes defended, 49 tackles, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Teams who could offer that contender for Slay include the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have been proposed as a team since defensive coordinator Teryl Austin worked with Slay in Detroit prior to this role, and the Lions, who could use some help in the secondary.
