Rumors Had It:
Kentucky ties an all-time college basketball record with win over Missouri
The Kentucky Wildcats defeated the Missouri Tigers 91-83 on the road to earn their ninth victory in the top 15. For Mark Pope, it was the culmination of an incredible regular season in his first year at Lexington.
For Pope and company, this victory will make Kentucky one of just three teams in college basketball history to earn eight victories against teams in the top 15 of the AP Top 25 Poll.
Since Bobby Knight’s coaching tenure at Indiana during the 1992–93 season, this has not been done. One season after losing to Goose Givens and the Wildcats in the NCAA National Championship Game, the 1978–79 Duke squad likewise achieved this feat.
The Blue Devils became the first squad to win eight games against a team in the top 15 around 46 years ago. Three coaches have done so thus far: Mark Pope, Bill Foster, and the renowned coach
The Wildcats had numerous chances to get to this point, and they did so on Saturday afternoon when they defeated the Tigers on the road in Mizzou Arena. Hopefully, it will help clear the path for a strong postseason run.
