Recalling Doris Day, Paul McCartney says, “She Was a True…
Paul McCartney paid tribute to Doris Day, a fellow animal lover and longtime friend. Following a bout of pneumonia, the renowned singer and actress passed away on Monday at the age of 97. On his website, he stated, “She was a true star in more ways than one.” As a lifelong advocate for animal welfare, that was one of those methods. The actress-singer was known as “the Dog Catcher of Beverly Hills” because of her passion for dogs in particular. She was regarded as an early supporter of animal protection services. In 1978, she established the Doris Day Pet Foundation, which later changed its name to the Doris Day Animal Foundation.
The Beatle cited Day in a 2016 Rolling Stone interview about aging with David Fricke. “Age is an illusion,” Doris Day, who I know a little bit, once told me.I was wishing her a happy birthday when I just reminded her of that. Age, they say, is just a number. The older you get, the bigger the number is. I won’t be bothered if it doesn’t get in the way, though. You are free to disregard it. I work in that capacity.
