Otega Oweh, a standout guard who transferred from Oklahoma to Kentucky in April 2024, has significantly impacted the Wildcats’ basketball program. In his first season with Kentucky, Oweh emerged as the team’s leading scorer. He began his junior season with 26 consecutive games scoring in double figures. Notably, on February 26, 2025, Oweh scored Kentucky’s final 18 points, setting a new career-high with 28 points, and secured a game-winning shot with six seconds remaining against his former team, the Oklahoma Sooners. Four games later, in the second round of the 2025 SEC men’s basketball tournament, he scored 27 points and made another game-winning shot with 0.5 seconds left against Oklahoma.
Prior to joining Kentucky, Oweh played two seasons at Oklahoma, where he averaged 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game during his sophomore year. He also led the team in steals, ranking among the top 20 in the Big 12 Conference.
Regarding his transfer decision, Oweh expressed a desire to join Kentucky’s storied basketball program under Coach Mark Pope. He cited the opportunity to compete at the highest level and contribute to a team with championship aspirations as key factors in his decision.
Oweh’s transition has been mutually beneficial, with his contributions playing a pivotal role in Kentucky’s success during the 2024-2025 season.
