Ann Arbor—While the Michigan Wolverines are busy getting ready for their December 31 matchup with Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl, roster choices for the 2025 campaign are still being made. The two senior defensive lineman who are in the running to return for another season are TJ Guy and Rayshaun Benny.

Guy said to The Wolverine, “Not set in stone.” However, I want to remain in Michigan and be a Michigan man, you know. That depends on a number of factors. However, I am definitely leaning toward returning.

Both Guy and junior Derrick Moore have been priorities to return, and each stated they were leaning that direction at the Champions Circle toy drive over the weekend. But nothing is official just yet. “[Derrick Moore] is my guy,” Guy said. “I feel like we can cause a lot of havoc together, so his decision definitely plays a huge role in mine. But yeah, we can work really well together.”

With one season of eligibility left, Guy was a mainstay in the EDGE rotation this season, starting two games at Washington (27-17 L, Oct. 5) and against Minnesota (27-24 W, Sept. 28). He had 29 total tackles and 5.5 sacks at the end of the regular season.

Guy has 22 quarterback pressures this season, which puts him sixth on the Michigan roster behind only Mason Graham (30), Moore (30), Josaiah Stewart (35), and Kenneth Grant (27). With 367 total reps in 12 regular season games, he finished 12th in terms of snaps played.

Benny did not have much to say, and played it coy with the Michigan reporters when asked about his decision. “This season was my fourth year,” Benny said. “This is my senior year. [So] I don’t know.”

As a rotational player behind Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant on the Michigan defensive line, Benny participated in 12 games this season and recorded 28 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two passes defended. In 2025, he would be anticipated to lead the defensive tackle rotation, with former Alabama player Damon Payne Jr., who signed on Wednesday, providing some reinforcement via the transfer portal.
