2025 4-star QB Carter Smith decommits from Michigan football: Where could he go now?
One of the state’s top senior quarterbacks, Carter Smith, is now homeless after Michigan decommitted him on Wednesday night. Many institutions would be happy to include him into their class of 2025. Football Recruiting: Monitoring Florida players’ flips and commits prior to signing day
There are only 21 reported offers for Smith, a four-star from Bishop Verot. Recall that he had been committed to Michigan for almost a year, and rival teams viewed him as an implausible flip. Although Smith was ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the USA Today Florida Top 100, it became clear that Michigan did not regard him as their guy as the Wolverines increased their NIL attempts to support quarterbacks in this cycle and possible transfers.
However, a number of institutions have already expressed interest in Smith and see him as a future starter. The current Gatorade Florida Player of the Year has 484 rushing yards and 11 additional touchdowns this season, along with 1,091 passing yards and 11 touchdowns with just one interception. He is doubtful for this Friday’s game after missing last week’s due to an injury. Smith will have his pick of the litter on National Signing Day in December because of his athleticism, which makes him a very appealing prospect at the Power-4 level.
Bekkem Kritza, a three-star quarterback from Chaminade-Madonna, has verbally committed to Penn State. Smith would probably be high on the depth chart behind former five-star Drew Allar, who was offered by James Franklin and company at the end of last May. After a strong junior campaign, Allar has created draft excitement but is not guaranteed to return.
One of the most recent offers Smith has mentioned was from the Nittany Lions in May 2023.
