Chelsea defender Axel Disasi and Paris St-Germain midfielder Marco Asensio have joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the current campaign. During the winter transfer window, the two arrive to Villa Park after Marcus Rashford, Donyell Malen, and Andres Garcia.
According to reports, Villa will pay three-time Champions League champion Asensio’s salary, but they do not have the option to make.
Villa traded center-back Diego Carlos to Fenerbahce for about £8.45 million and Colombian striker Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr, a Saudi Pro League team, for £71 million. They sent 21-year-old winger Samuel Iling-Junior on loan to Middlesbrough on Monday for the remainder of the campaign.
Three weeks earlier, the 26-year-old Dutch forward Malen moved from Borussia Dortmund to Villa for £19 million, while Garcia, a 21-year-old Spanish full-back, moved from Levante for an estimated £6 million plus an additional £1 million in add-ons.
Since joining PSG from Real Madrid in the summer of 2023, Asensio has made 47 appearances and scored seven goals. The 29-year-old has only made eight league starts this season, after helping the team win the French championship the previous season.
After Villa’s 2-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday, which dropped the team to ninth place in the Premier League, manager Unai Emery declared that his team needed new players. According to Asensio, “Unai is a coach who I have known for a while,” the Villa website stated.

Disasi seemed to be on his way to north London, so Villa beat Tottenham to get him, but they waited until Monday night to finalize the transaction. The 26-year-old reportedly wanted to sign with Villa, who are currently ranked eighth in the Premier League standings and have advanced to the Champions League round of 16.
