NEWS-TYPE O: Drummer Would not Want A Negative…
The loss of singer and bassist Peter Steele in 2010 marked the end of Type O Negative. That was the end for Type O Negative; the band members have since moved on to play in other popular groups (except keyboardist Josh Silver, who became an EMT). In a recent Loaded Radio program, drummer Johnny Kelly was asked if a Peter Steele tribute show will ever take place as a way to honor the band. He basically replied, “Nope.”
“Talk over coffee. Never once was there any real thought given to whether or not we should take action. Is doing it even worthwhile? Or is it just an obvious attempt to make money? Thus, all of these thoughts cross your mind.
“Someday, perhaps, there will be something that’s… I am not sure,” he continued. But I am aware that Josh and Kenny would also need to be a part of it for me. It would have to be the three of us doing anything. Furthermore, there is no way you are going to persuade Josh to act in that manner.”
“I am not sure. I would prefer a female to perform it. A female vocalist akin to Ann Wilson would be ideal for me. Still, that is the first thing to consider. You are just going to get all these individuals when you consider doing a tribute show. Yes, a lot of guys up there are just trying to sound like Peter, even though Peter was highly regarded by our colleagues and other people. You are unable to accomplish that. And, okay, so what is the furthest thing from Peter that you can imagine? It would need you to take on an entirely abstract task. Moreover, I advise hiring a female vocalist. I believe Peter would find this hilarious. He would get a kick out of hearing a female perform his tunes. Additionally, it would emphasize how important it is to pay tribute rather than attempt to replicate anything.”
