Although Matt Luke ascended through the coaching levels steadily, his promotion to head coach came as a surprise.
Hugh Freeze’s resignation from Ole Miss was abruptly announced on Thursday, and Luke was named the team’s temporary head coach.
Luke, who has served as offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator, had his first appearance before the media on Monday. He expressed astonishment at the coaching shift but eventually felt humbled by the chance.
It still amazes me that I have played or coached here for 14 years of my life. I genuinely feel like I am working at my dream job right now, everyone. At the stage at Manning Center, Luke stated, “It is a position I have been preparing my whole life for. I am wearing a blue blazer, white shirt, and red striped tie.” “I am more convinced than ever that I am the best person to lead this effort.”
Luke addressed the Rebel fan base “directly” on multiple occasions while looking straight into the cameras during his live press conference broadcast on ESPN and the internet.
“Now is the moment. Luke cited former Ole Miss legend Chucky Mullins when he declared, “It is time for Ole Miss and Rebel Nation to go ahead together. “I consider it a privilege to lead Ole Miss as head coach. This university is our university, your university, and mine. I am quite excited to go through the tunnel on September 2.
Luke gave a brief account of what happened on Thursday. At approximately 4 p.m., he received a call from Ross Bjork, the athletic director at Ole Miss, wanting to meet at his office. Bjork asked Luke whether he would be interested in taking the lead on his program there.
