LEXINGTON, Ky. (KT) — Otega Oweh successfully transitioned from one program to another this season.
KT (Lexington, Kentucky) — This season, Otega Oweh made a smooth transition between programs. Ahead of the league’s postseason tournament starting Monday in Nashville, the coaches of the league named the former Oklahoma guard, who was one of Kentucky’s most reliable players, to their second-team All-SEC team on Monday.
Prior to this season, Kentucky coach Mark Pope did not anticipate Oweh to be the team’s top scorer. Oweh averaged a team-high 16.2 points per game and scored double figures in Kentucky’s first 26 games, which is unprecedented in college basketball this season. Oweh scored 10 points or more in 29 of 31 games and more than 20 points 11 times.
Mark Pope, the coach of Kentucky, did not anticipate Oweh becoming the team’s top scorer earlier in the season. Pope commented at the time, “That is why this is so fantastic.” “You know how proud I am of him? To be quite honest with you, I was curious about his consistency before the season began.
