LeBron James Talks About The “Humbling” Prospect Of Breaking…
During the 2022–2023 NBA season, LeBron James is expected to create history by officially surpassing Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul–Jabbar to become the league’s all-time top scorer. Including regular-season and postseason totals, James already has a greater career point total than Abdul-Jabbar. To shatter the renowned scoring record of 38,387 points set by the great center, though, the 37-year-old needs 1,326 points. This mark has stood for more than 30 years.
James stated on Monday during Lakers Media Day that he only considers hitting the mark when he comes across a social media article that details how many games he might need to play in order to pass Abdul-Jabbar on the all-time scoring list. But those times, the eighteen-time All-Star continued, help him appreciate what a unique accomplishment he is going to accomplish. “I think it’s just really humbling for myself to know that I’m on the verge of breaking probably the most sought-after record in the NBA, things that people say would probably never be done,” James remarked. “I think it’s really awesome.”
James claimed that it brings back special memories from his early years to wander around Akron, Ohio, shooting imaginary or actual baskets. He said that seeing his name named among the greatest players the NBA has ever seen brings back those emotions. “Kareem has undoubtedly disagreed with some of my opinions and actions, but at the end of the day, it’s amazing to be able to mention in the same sentence someone who wore the same uniform, someone who was a mainstay of this franchise for a long time, particularly in the ’80s, along with Magic and Big Game, and someone who accomplishes a lot off the court as well.
In case this post makes James’ social media feeds, let’s calculate how many games the Lakers All-Star might need to break Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record. James averages 27.1 points per game going into his 20th NBA season. If he was to score at that rate in 2021-22, he would only need 48 games to reach the milestone. Therefore, James might be able to officially celebrate the historic moment before the All-Star break if he can avoid injuries in the first part of the 2022-23 season.
