Kamala Harris’ father disputes Janet Jackson’s assertion that she isn’t Black.
Music legend Janet Jackson has gained notice for expressing the opinion that Vice President Kamala Harris might not be Black after earlier voicing a similar thought to former President Donald Trump.
Jackson discussed her views on the approaching election and Harris’s chances of becoming the first Black woman to hold the presidency in an interview with The Guardian.
Jackson asserted during the talk that she had heard Harris is Indian rather than Black—a remark reminiscent of one that Trump made in July during a contentious discussion at the National Association of Black Journalists Annual Convention. Jackson reaffirmed, “Her father’s white,” when the interviewer corrected her and clarified that Harris is both Black and Indian. It is what I was informed. I mean, it is been a few days since I last watched the news. They found out her father was Caucasian, I was informed.”
Harris identifies as Black and claims that her mother is Indian and her father is of Jamaican-American origin.
