Just In:How much BYU basketball moved up in the AP Top 25 poll ahead of its Big 12 opener
Prior to starting their difficult Big 12 Conference schedule on Saturday, the BYU men’s basketball team moved up in the Associated Press Top 25 poll, which was made public on Monday.
Last week, BYU was ranked No. 14, but it is currently ranked No. 12.The Cougars (12-1) have never been ranked higher than No. 12 this season.
The decision was taken by head coach Mark Pope and his team after last Saturday’s decisive victory.This time, they defeated the Wyoming Cowboys 94-68 at home.
With 723 points, BYU surpassed No. 13 Colorado State (694) but fell far short of No. 11 Oklahoma (898).Five more Big 12 teams, all of which are ranked in the top 20, joined the Cougars in the poll.
Purdue is ranked first, followed by Oklahoma and BYU, Baylor at number 18, and Texas at number 20. Kansas and Houston are ranked number two and three, respectively.Votes were also cast for Iowa State.
On Saturday night, BYU will play their first Big 12 game at home against Cincinnati, another conference newcomer.With 82 points, the Cougars’ rival Utah Utes, on the other hand, continued to rank fourth among the other teams that received votes for the third week in a row.
The Utes are currently trailing San Diego State, Creighton, and Colorado after trailing Miami, Auburn, and Pac-12 Conference rival Colorado for the first two weeks.Arizona, which is ranked No. 10, is the lone Pac-12 team in the top 25 this week.
