In a major announcement poised to redefine the global image of women’s tennis, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has named world No. 1 Iga Świątek as its new Global Tennis Ambassador, ushering in what many are calling a “new era of influence and inspiration” for the sport.
Świątek, a four-time Grand Slam champion and one of the most dominant forces in tennis today, will take on the ambassadorial role effective immediately. The WTA says the appointment reflects both her athletic excellence and her growing impact off the court as a mental health advocate, role model, and global sports icon.
“Iga represents everything we value in a WTA athlete – grit, integrity, and a deep commitment to the future of the sport,” said WTA CEO Marina Storti. “We’re proud to partner with her in this new capacity and believe she will elevate women’s tennis to unprecedented global visibility.”
As part of her new role, Świątek will spearhead initiatives focused on youth engagement, mental wellness in sports, and global tennis development, particularly in emerging markets. She will also serve as a spokesperson in WTA campaigns and collaborate with top sponsors to promote gender equality and fair competition.
Świątek, who recently defended her Wimbledon title and is currently on a 21-match winning streak, said the opportunity was “an incredible honor.”
“Tennis has given me so much, and I want to give back in a meaningful way,” Świątek stated during a press conference in Warsaw. “This ambassador role allows me to support the next generation and bring our sport to new corners of the world.”
The announcement comes amid growing calls for players to have more active roles in shaping the sport’s future. Analysts suggest that Świątek’s influence, both in performance and persona, positions her uniquely to lead that charge.
With the Paris Olympics just weeks away, the timing couldn’t be more symbolic. Świątek is expected to carry Poland’s flag during the opening ceremony and is widely considered a favorite for gold.
