“John Forgerty Shocks Fans With Surprise Album Drop:Get Ready For a Rockabilly Revolution!
This Easter, John Fogerty will make his first trip to Australia since 2012. He will be the featured artist at the Country Fest Queensland. And he will serve up some Creedence for the first time in forever.
The 30-31 March bill included a number of notable performers, including Morgan Evans, Lee Kernaghan, James Johnston, and others, but the star of Creedence Clearwater Revival steals the show.
The rock legend will play a set of his own songs followed by a second performance of CCR classics, something he has not done in these parts since 1972, according to festival representatives.
A year after regaining ownership of his CCR publishing rights—and capping what was deemed to be one of the music industry’s grimmest and most laborious fifty years of struggle—Fogerty travels to Australia.
The rights to well-known songs including “Proud Mary,” “Down on the Corner,” “Fortunate Son,” “Bad Moon Rising,” “Up Around the Bend,” and “Green River” were unlocked for the singer, songwriter, and guitarist with that agreement.
Before disbanding in 1972, one of the greatest rock bands in America, CCR, had a very successful career that included five top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 between 1969 and 1970.
Fogerty was not allowed to enjoy his heyday. Following a lengthy and bitter court battle that saw Fantasy Records’ late president Saul Zaentz seize control of Fogerty’s publishing in 1980, the Rock Hall inductee refused to perform CCR songs live.
