“Jack Lowdrn Announces Retirement Citing Personal Struggles,I have been going….
It was Jack Lowden, Saoirse Ronan’s husband, who proposed that she play Rona in The Outrun.
“He gave me the book and told me, ‘You have to play this,'” the 30-year-old Ronan claimed in a Sunday, September 15 interview with The Times.
The drama was produced by Lowden and was based on the same-titled memoir that Amy Liptrot published in 2016. Starring Stephen Dillane, Saskia Reeves, and Paapa Essiedu, The Outrun is about Rona (Ronan), who goes back to her native Scotland’s Orkney Islands in order to recuperate from her past.
“Why would you not want to keep working with somebody that you love and you trust creatively?” said Ronan, who costarred with Lowden in the 2018 film Mary Queen of Scots.
Ronan gushed that she and Lowden have “extremely high expectations for one another,” calling her husband her “comrade.” (The couple exchanged vows in July.)
“You are not doing that, are you?” he asked when she tested out Rona’s Orcadian accent on him for The Outrun, she recalled.
Ronan revealed that she felt a personal connection to the narrative as she thought back on her part in The Outrun.
But she added, “I have been on the receiving end of the anguish produced by alcoholism, so it is a world I know pretty well.” “I have seen loved ones transform as a result of addiction. Witnessing someone you love—friends my age and one in particular with whom I am close—go through that makes you feel helpless. That moment when someone is eyes glaze over and they disappear will always be seared in my memory.
