I have previously stood at this podium twice. I would like to introduce you to Stephanie Graf, my stunning wife. I thought the recipient was significantly more worthy, which is why I felt so much more at ease that day. The second time was in my father’s head, in his fantasy (laughing). My father Mike foresaw this day in my future from the day I was born, and he often told me about it. Thus, at this moment, my sense of déjà vu nearly equals my sense of thankfulness.
You know, not so long ago, I was in my hometown of Las Vegas giving a seminar, and following my speech, there was this question-and-answer session. A man in the front row raised his hand and asked the first question out of the box. This man’s face made it clear that he was having serious difficulties. “How do you know when to quit telling your kids what to do?” he asked, taking up the microphone. It was my dad who asked the inquiry.
That night, I was taken aback. I was at a loss for words. I can not recall what I actually said. But now I see the solution so clearly. Dad, you told me to win Wimbledon when I was five years old, to win all four Grand Slams when I was seven years old, and more times than I can count, to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. And I do not know whether you recall, but you advised me to wed Steffi Graf when I was 29. My best order from you to date. So, Dad, please never stop giving me instructions.
