The longest-serving members of Deep Purple have come together recently on one belief: a reunion with Ritchie Blackmore is not in the cards for their career.
So much so that Blackmore even declared that “smiling” is “not a normal thing” and acknowledged that he purposefully creates the impression that he is irritated in order to be left alone in a joint interview with his wife Candice Night.
Working with Blackmore in both Deep Purple and Rainbow, bassist Roger Glover says people close to the guitarist are aware of his gloomy demeanor. However, this information does not make Blackmore a more enjoyable person to be around.
Glover told Eddie Trunk, “I think he is wired that way, but then enjoys it — he enjoys putting people on edge and people not quite knowing what he is up to.” I suppose that is just his personality. However, you have to separate the music away from the man because that is what makes him a musician first and foremost. The music is magnificent on its own; he was an amazing player, an auteur, and an innovator. We spent some time traveling with him while he was on his path.”
