Hugh Jackman and wife announce 27-year marriage is over
After 27 years together, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have announced they are divorcing. Oscar, age 23, and Ava, age 18, are the couple’s two children. The Australian actors were married in 1996.
“We have been fortunate to spend over thirty years together as husband and wife in a lovely, loving marriage,” the couple stated in a statement to People magazine. Now that our path is changing, we have made the decision to part ways in order to focus on our own personal development.
“Our top priority has always been and always will be our family. We approach this new chapter with kindness, love, and thankfulness. As our family moves through this time in our lives, we sincerely appreciate your understanding and respect for our privacy.
The postscript said, “This is the solitary comment either of us will make,” and the message was signed off as “Deb and Hugh Jackman.”
In April, the pair commemorated their 27th wedding anniversary. In 1995, they met while costarring in the Australian television series Correlli as a brain-damaged prisoner and a prison psychologist.
