MADISON — On Sunday, Florida quarterback Carter Smith declared his intention to join the Wisconsin Badgers football program. Rivals, ESPN, and On3 rank him as a four-star prospect, while 247sports rates him as a three-star talent.
When UW hosted No. 1 Oregon on November 16, Smith paid the school an official visit. “I can not say enough about the staff; they managed to fit in everything we wanted to see in this very short window,” Smith’s father, Dan, told On3. “Our talk with Coach (Luke) Fickell was excellent. When the Wolverines started pursuing another quarterback in the class, Bryce Underwood, who had already decommitted from LSU, he retracted his November 2023 commitment to Michigan. The News-Press in Fort Myers reports that Smith earned over 20 Power 4 scholarship offers after decommitting from Michigan.
Smith is ranked by On3 as the 15th best quarterback in the 2025 class, the 27th best recruit in Florida, and the 203rd best recruit in the US. He is ranked No. 20 overall in Florida, No. 156 overall in the US, and the third dual-threat quarterback by ESPN.
Smith has completed 117 of 192 throws (60.9%) for 1,386 yards, 14 touchdowns, and four interceptions, according to MaxPreps. He has 12 touchdowns and 632 yards on 109 carries, a 5.8-yard average. Smith has completed 583 of 961 passes (60.7%) for 8,738 yards, 87 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions throughout his time in high school. He has ran for 56 touchdowns and 2,620 yards on 484 carries
