Good News:3 key returning players for Michigan Football that had impressive performances against Alabama
Even though a few of Michigan’s most important players will not be returning for the Wolverines’ 2025 campaign, there are still a number of guys with extremely high potential.
Here are three players who could play a significant role in 2025, along with their performances in the ReliaQuest Bowl victory over Alabama.
Jordan Marshall, a rookie running back, had a quiet 2024 season. His eight carries for 20 yards did not draw much attention, but that was not a reflection of his skill or potential. He was buried behind running backs Kalel Mullings and Donovan Edwards, and he spent the majority of the season dealing with an injury, so he did not have
With Mullings and Edwards opting out, Marshall finally saw substantial playing time in the ReliaQuest Bowl.Marshall’s potential immediately became a reality. He won MVP after running for 100 yards on 23 carries.
Although Marshall only played in four regular season games, he did not shy away from the spotlight, which is encouraging for next season. Marshall alone was responsible for more than half of the Wolverines’ 190 total yards, with just 75 passing yards. Michigan relied heavily on its running game.
Kicker Dominic Zvada was a rare source of steadiness for Michigan during a season that was full of highs and lows.Zvada was a consistent scorer, going 17-of-18 on field goals at the end of the regular season.Zvada offered the Wolverines one final reason to celebrate this season before the 2025 campaign, even though his decision to return for that season was something to be happy about.
Connecting on all four of his field goal attempts against Alabama, Zvada made a massive impact. Of the Wolverines’ 19 points, 13 came courtesy of Zvada’s the four field goals and one extra point. Despite getting the ball in the red zone on three of Michigan’s first four drives, the Wolverines only scored one touchdown. Struggling to find the endzone, Zvada was the focal point of their scoring.
However, that is nothing new.Michigan has relied on Zvada to score points throughout the season. He scored 89 points, more than any other player. It was Zvada who put Michigan up 13-10 in the last minute of the game in the Wolverines’ stunning upset victory over No. 2 Ohio State.
After demonstrating his potential time and again in the regular season, Zvada ended his 2024 campaign in stunning way, propelling the Wolverines’ scoring efforts en route to their victory over Alabama. It was also one final reminder of what Michigan has at its disposal for the next season.
