Geoffrey Lower’s life has taken some extremely fascinating turns since….
Hank Lawson, played by William Shockley
In Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, William Shockley portrayed Hank Lawson, the proprietor of the saloon. He was a pivotal supporting character, having appeared in 120 of the 150 episodes of the show. But being an actor was not always his dream job.
Prior to turning to film, William Shockley had a few early roles in action and horror flicks and television series, including RoboCop, Howling V: The Rebirth, and Freddy’s Nightmares. He actually majored in political science at Texas Tech University and intended to work in that field.
What became of William after Dr. Quinn’s tenure? He then carried on with his illustrious film and television career, landing numerous roles in both pictures and series. His filmography has some standout performances, such as Nash Bridges, NCIS: Los Angeles, Reaper, and Last Will.
In addition, he has recently taken up voice acting more frequently. He has narrated ads and campaigns for well-known companies like Sony and Toyota. He has also hosted his own country music radio program, The Road. He has spoken highly of Dr. Quinn in interviews, referring to the program as “a true gift.”
As Reverend Timothy Johnson in Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Geoffrey Lower played the local preacher or priest that every Old West community needed. This was probably Lower’s largest part and the one that most people know him for, along with many of his co-stars.
His on-screen debut came in the 1991 family fantasy classic Hook, but it was not his first experience acting on screen; as a young man, he studied theater and participated in a number of productions. Prior to playing Reverend Johnson on Dr. Quinn, he had a recurring role on The Trials of Rosie O’Neill.
