Tennis legend Gabriela Sabatini has finally responded to recent doping allegations that surfaced online, firmly denying any involvement in the use of performance-enhancing substances during her illustrious career.
In a rare public statement, the Argentine icon expressed her shock and disappointment over the claims, describing them as “completely unfounded and deeply hurtful.” Sabatini, who retired in 1996 and remains one of the most respected figures in the sport, emphasized her lifelong dedication to fair play and clean competition.
“I have always conducted myself with integrity, on and off the court,” Sabatini said. “These accusations go against everything I stood for throughout my career. I categorically deny any use of banned substances at any point in my life.”
The 1990 US Open champion also pointed out that she had never failed a drug test in her professional career and had always welcomed routine testing as part of the sport’s commitment to fairness. Sabatini’s legal representatives are reportedly exploring legal action against sources that have circulated the allegations without evidence.
The tennis world has largely rallied behind Sabatini, with many former players, analysts, and fans voicing support and calling the rumors a “baseless attack” on one of the sport’s most admired figures.
Despite the controversy, Sabatini remains composed and focused on her ongoing work promoting sports and wellness, stating that she will not allow the allegations to overshadow her legacy or the positive impact she hopes to continue making in the world of athletics.
