Frances Tiafoe loses to Jannik Sinner to…
After winning the Cincinnati Open 7-6 (7/4), 6-2, Jannik Sinner raised his third ATP Masters trophy.
The Italian patiently won the opening set in a close battle before turning the tide of the match in the second, setting himself up nicely for next week’s US Open.
Even though Tiafoe lost the first-set tiebreaker and saw a decline in his game, he still had an impact on the match on Monday.
Before Sinner won his 15th career ATP title, the American, who now stands in the top-20, saved three match points.
Throughout the match, Sinner broke Tiafoe twice and hit 29 winners, including 13 aces.
After winning the Australian Open in Melbourne to start the season, the 23-year-old has now won five trophies in 2024, including Cincinnati.
Sinner remarked, “I am glad, this was a very trying week.” “Emotionally, it was difficult, but I gave it my all.”
There was a lot of stress, and both Frances and I were exhausted after the semifinals on Sunday.
“I am happy that I maintained my composure during the crucial times. I did a good job with the court issues.
“There were a lot of highs and lows, but that is typical. I performed well in each match’s pivotal moments.
Sinner, who is more nearly 2,000 points ahead of world number two Novak Djokovic, is a clear favorite going into the US Open on August 26.
“That is this US Open swing’s primary objective.”I am content with my current situation. I am itching to keep playing. I want to play well when I am in New York.
Since Andy Murray in 2008, Sinner is the Cincinnati Open’s youngest winner.
