Finally:Chloe Moore-McNeil set to Return for her Fifth Season
Yesterday, point guard Chloe Moore-McNeil announced her decision to return for her final year of eligibility, which was great news for Indiana Women’s Basketball. On her Twitter account, she shared the following:
Moore-McNeil leads the squad in assists (4.9), steals (1.3), and scoring (10.1), ranking fourth on the team this season. This season, the Hoosiers have benefited greatly from her calm hand at the point. Head coach Teri Moren will have a seasoned backcourt to weather the rigors of Big Ten play when she returns and guard Sydney Parrish returns the following season.
Moore-McNeil responded to head coach Teri Moren’s request to be more aggressive prior to the Illinois game. She is been more inclined to drive to the basket and shoot. But her contribution to the squad is not always reflected in the box score. She sparked Indiana’s retaliation against Iowa, for instance. In that game, Moore-McNeil finished with six points, five assists, and a steal. But the Hoosiers won because of her outstanding defense against Caitlin
Clark needed 26 shots to reach her 24-point total. She had five turnovers and nine assists. Most importantly, Moore-McNeil pushed Clark to control the ball and restrict Iowa’s ball movement by contesting every shot.
Coach Teri Moren says, “Chloe is as tough as they come.” She is trustworthy. I trust her to guard the top player on the other team in addition to making decisions on the court. She has a lot on her plate: managing our club and protecting the best player. That requires incredible talent and fortitude. She puts her all into every game, so if there were a toughness category, she would win.
Although Sara Scalia and Mackenzie Holmes may receive the most attention and lead the Hoosiers in scoring, Chloe Moore-McNeil is the team’s star player, and her return for a fifth season is a victory for the Hoosiers.
